Summary of Findings
The evidence suggests that the Scaife surname originated in more than one area. The diverse ethnic origins of the various branches of the surname indicate that it was the descriptive characterisation assigned to each progenitor which was the attribute which the whole family shares rather than blood links.
Whether by coincidence or not, a majority of subjects tested hitherto appear to belong to the E3b haplogroup. For this reason, these results are looked at in some further detail which also reflects the new genetic research being conducted in this area.
